Finding the right therapist can matter just as much as finding someone nearby.

You may already know that you want to work with a somatic therapist, even if you’re not entirely sure what that will look like. Perhaps someone recommended it, or something you’ve read about the connection between mind and body has stayed with you.

You may be looking for therapy that includes the body and offers something experiential, while still allowing you to talk, reflect, and explore your life and relationships in depth.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), providing online somatic therapy for adults throughout Florida.

How Online Somatic Therapy Works

Somatic therapy brings your thoughts, emotions, and body into the work together. We can talk about what is happening in your life, relationships, and earlier experiences while also paying attention to what is happening in your body in the present moment.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is the foundation of my approach. It is a body-based therapy that helps us work with how stress, trauma, and other experiences show up in the nervous system, with attention to pacing and what feels manageable for you.

During online sessions, we may slow down and notice a sensation, emotion, movement, or impulse. We might experiment with movement or posture, orient to your surroundings, or find ways of supporting different parts of your body. All of this can be done together through video from your own space.

What You Might Be Experiencing

  • A couple sitting together on a bench facing the beach in Hollywood, Florida

    Trauma

Past experiences may not be on your mind every day, but you can still notice their effects. Certain situations may leave you feeling overwhelmed, shut down, guarded, or reacting more strongly than you expected. You may understand why these responses developed and still find that they show up automatically. Learn more about trauma therapy

    Anxiety

Anxiety can show up in both your thoughts and your body. You may find yourself anticipating problems, replaying situations, or trying to stay ahead of what might happen. At other times, anxiety may show up more physically through tension, restlessness, difficulty settling, or a sense that something isn’t quite right. Learn more about anxiety therapy

    Midlife Stress

Midlife can bring caregiving, career changes, relationship shifts, health concerns, loss, or questions about what’s next. It can also be a time when you begin looking more closely at how you’re living, what you need, and what you want the next part of your life to look like. Learn more about midlife therapy

Meet Amy Hagerstrom, LCSW, SEP

Hi, I’m Amy.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, providing online therapy for adults throughout Florida.

My interest in somatic therapy grew out of both personal and professional experience. After many years in talk therapy, yoga helped me begin to recognize how much my body was connected to my emotional experience. Later, my own experience with Somatic Experiencing showed me what it could be like to bring the body more directly into therapy. That eventually led me to train in SE and make it the foundation of my practice.

I’m especially drawn to working with people who want depth in therapy and are curious about how their present experiences connect with earlier relationships, patterns, and the mind-body connection.

My hope is to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself while experiencing meaningful changes in how you feel and respond to life. If my approach resonates with you, I’d be happy to explore whether we might be a good fit.

Why Online Therapy Can Be a Good Fit

Online therapy can be especially helpful when you’re looking for a particular kind of therapist. You may not have a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) nearby, or the therapists in your area may not offer the approach you’re looking for. Working online gives you more options throughout Florida.

There can also be something helpful about doing somatic work from a familiar environment. You have your own surroundings and supports available to you, whether that’s a favorite chair, a blanket, or even a pet nearby. And when the session ends, you can stay where you are for a few minutes if you need time to settle.

And practically, there’s no drive or traffic to plan around, which can make it easier to keep a weekly therapy appointment as part of your life.

Feeling Stronger in Yourself and Your Life

Life will always bring challenges. Feeling more capable of facing them is something we can work toward in therapy.

Somatic therapy can help you build resilience and develop greater confidence in yourself. Experiences that once felt overwhelming may become easier to face, and you may begin to trust yourself more when things get difficult.

As that confidence grows, you may find yourself more willing to take chances, make changes you’ve been considering, or become more engaged in your relationships and daily life. Feeling stronger in yourself can help you pursue more of what you want from life. And it can also help you relax, enjoy the good moments, and take more pleasure in everyday life.

Working With Adults Across Florida

I provide online therapy for adults throughout Florida, including Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and smaller communities across the state. You can meet with me online from anywhere in Florida where you have the privacy you need for your session.

If what you’ve read here feels like the kind of therapy you’re looking for, I offer a free 10-minute consultation where you can ask questions, learn a little more about working together, and see if we might be a good fit.
